Breaking and Entering in NexGen Pulp Magazine!
June 3 , 2008

Just a quick reminder that my short story Breaking and Entering is featured in this month's issue of NexGen Pulp Magazine. You can purchase a print copy for $6.00 or a PDF for $4.00. Check it out here.

Breaking and Entering is the story of Chase Sands, a man who gets his kicks entering people's homes. He doesn't steal anything; he just browses through their stuff, from room to room, without leaving a trace that he was ever in their home. One afternoon, he will stumble upon something truly shocking...

Internet Radio Interview and NexGen Pulp Magazine...
May 18 , 2008

It's been a couple of months since my last radio interview, so guess what? I've got one coming up tomorrow and I'm real excited about this one! So on Monday, May 19th, at 9 pm Eastern time/8 pm Central time on AngelLesa's BlogTalkRadio located here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/AngelLesa

As usual, I will be reading a chapter from my horror novel Bitternest as well as answer your questions live on the phone. So bookmark it, and I will see you there! If you can't make it, the interview will be saved on their site's archives section.

On the short story front, I am proud to announce that my story "Breaking and Entering" has been accepted and will be featured in the rapidly growing NexGen Pulp magazine, issue 3 of June/July. It will be on sale in early June and you can get it as a print magazine or as a PDF. Head over to their site to pre-order a copy now: http://www.nexgenpulp.com

I'd like to stress that this is what my friends, family and I consider to be my absolute best short story. It is a shocker piece and I am thrilled that it is published with NexGen as they are going places fast. A year from now, this magazine will be so big you won't believe it! Their stories are as varied as fantasy, horror, sci-fi, adventure and detective stories; just like the old pulp magazines of the good old days. This is the perfect fit for an old school guy like me.

Interview and Sinister Landscapes update...
April 28 , 2008

It's been awhile since I last did an interview but here's one that took place in January and it's finally popping up now. Head over to Crystal's Author Interview blog to read it.

Also, here is a list of the authors who will be joining me so far in Sinister Landscapes, the gothic horror anthology I'll be editing and which will be coming out this Halloween.

Frank E. Bittinger, author of Angels of the Seventh Dawn
David Boyle, author of Blood Works
Eric Enck, author of Ghost of a Chance
Charles Glover, author of After the Paperman Comes (under the name Heywood Steele)
T.G. Reaper, author of Empty Graves
Jeani Rector, author of Open Grave

I am still expecting stories from 5 or 6 previously published authors. I will probably have room for 7 or 8 more stories (about 15 total) so keep those submissions coming. Here's the link to the submission guidelines for those interested in submitting a short story.

On a side note, Bitternest was released one year ago! To celebrate, why not pick up a copy if you haven't already done so? Visit the Media Room for a list of direct links to buy the book.

Gothic Horror Anthology
March 7 , 2008

Here it is, my grand announcement. I've been teasing some of you the past few days with the promise of something special. Well, the time has come to reveal what the big secret is all about. For over a year now, I've wanted to put together an anthology of short stories with the help of a bunch of authors, but the timing just wasn't right. Now that I'm busier than ever (and more seasoned as a writer), some would argue that editing an anthology can be maddening but it just feels right. I'm proud to give you the submission guidelines for SINISTER LANDSCAPES, a Gothic horror anthology which I'm hoping to have ready for Halloween 2008. Click on the following link for all the juicy details.

If it's something you'd like to be a part of or if you have any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me.

On a different note, I'd like to bring to your attention two very good writer friends of mine. David Boyle, whose first book, BLOOD WORKS, can be found here and Frank E. Bittinger, whose two books, INTO THE MIRROR BLACK and ANGELS OF THE SEVENTH DAWN, are located here. Give them a spin if you have a chance, you won't regret it!

Until next time, stay scared!

The Bypassed Mind now available
February 5 , 2008

Good news everybody; my short story The Bypassed Mind is now available on Amazon.com as part of their Amazon shorts. This one isn't a horror story, more of a romantic suspense/time travel story. Here's what it's about: A man travels to Bitternest, Louisiana for a conference on hypnosis. Once in his hotel room, he is mesmerized by a painting of a lady in a blue dress. Upon staring at it, he finds himself transported to a different era. Who is this mysterious lady who seems to have put a spell on him?

It's priced at only $0.49 for a PDF copy which you can print out at your leisure. The story is 29 pages long and can be purchased here. Unfortunately, Amazon shorts are only available to customers with a US billing address. Yes, even I can't download it! I'll see if there's anything I can do for fellow Canadian readers and the rest of the world.

In the writing department, I've finished writing my novella of dark suspense, Cellar Door, and it stands at 104 pages. I'm currently rewriting Fractured Time, my second novel, and will be moving on to novel number 3 shortly after.

My interview from last month on Darker Side of the Moon Radio is now available in streaming audio in the the media section of the site. Well, that's it for me. Until next time, stay scared!

Alan Draven on Darker Side of the Moon
January 6 , 2008

Another Holiday season is behind us and a new year begins. It's starting out pretty well for me. Friday morning I found an e-mail in my inbox saying that Bitternest had been selected as one of the two titles for this month's Sci-Fi/Paranormal Feature of the Month over at All Books Review. I'm honored to have been chosen.

Next up, this Thursday, January 10 at 9 PM Eastern/8 PM Central/6 PM Pacific, I will be a guest on Darker Side of the Moon Radio, so be sure to tune in! We'll be giving away an autographed and personally inscribed copy of Bitternest providing you answer a skill-testing question correctly. Be sure to tune in!

For those of you thinking of getting a copy of Bitternest (what? you haven't already!?), Buy.com is at it again, slashing the list price and selling the book at $13.66, by far the lowest price on the web. If you'd like to have an autographed and personally inscribed copy, you can still get one directly from me by heading to the media page and clicking the Paypal link. Don't forget to let me know the name you'd like the book inscribed to.

That's it for me. Once again, I'd like to wish each and everyone of you the best for the year ahead. A big thank you to all my readers and everyone who has supported me in one way or another in 2007; it means a lot!
